Brad Walters is an international destination wedding photographer traveling to legendary locations like the Bahamas for destination weddings.

The Bahamas might be the number one choice for destination weddings. With over 700 individual islands in the Bahamas archipelago, you can choose from a major island such as Grand Bahamas Island and Nassau/Paradise Island, or a small private island such as Rose Island. Maybe the Bamahas most important weather related fact affecting brides and their dresses, hair, makeup and their weddings in general, is that the average humidity for the Bahamas is around 81%, with an average temperature of 77°. This is not exactly ideal for photographers shooting destination weddings, but does make for a warm, sub-tropical environment.

The Bahamas offers a uniquely large number of choices for destination weddings. For example, if you are interested in a more upbeat and youthful experience for your destination wedding, you have the choice of the renowned Atlantis Resort. The Atlantis is a themed resort designed after the lost city of Atlantis and encompasses the whole of Paradise Island. The Atlantis Resort lends itself well to beautiful wedding photography to say the least. It is an absolute dream for wedding photographers, and is host to some of the most amazing destination weddings.

Although Paradise Island is one of my favorite islands in the Bahamas, it is apparently everyone else's as well, as it is always crowded, and the food and lodging seem to be twice as much (or more) as on other islands in the Bahamas. However, if you like to gamble, Paradise Island and the Atlantis Resort is your choice, having a very established gaming industry.

If you are looking for something a bit more relaxed and secluded for destination weddings while still being near civilization, then Grand Bahamas Island could be your island. Grand Bahamas Island has a number of what I call “adult resorts”. Bahamas Hotels and restaurants designed around the adult, without the kids attractions. These include the Westin Grand Bahamas Island Our Lucaya Resort,

and the Pelican Bay Resort At Lucaya. Shopping, authentic island food and food from around the world can be enjoyed right outside many of the Hotels.

Another option for an unforgettable Bahamas destination wedding is to charter your own private yacht for your wedding reception. Since the Bahamas are so close to the continental U.S., there is no shortage of American private yacht companies that are more than able to accommodate every detail of your destination wedding reception on a private yacht. It's proximity to the U.S. also makes it easier and less expensive to fly guests there, compared to other islands. The ease of which a wedding couple can hire these services from the mainland has made the Bahamas one of the most popular islands for destination weddings, and wedding photographers alike.

Something unique to consider about private islands for Bahamas destination weddings and private yachts for destination wedding receptions, is that they are private! No crowds, no Bahamian officials asking questions…nothing accept good friends, good food, and good wine.

Real Bahamas Destination Wedding Anecdote:

In 2008, we photographed the wedding of Doctors Russell and Hess. Elizabeth and Darren’s destination wedding was an amazing event. Darren decided he was going to go down to the Roulette table on the morning of his Bahamas wedding, and put fifty dollars on Red-19 (his wedding date, the 19th) and hit!. It seemed like a scene out of a James Bond film how he walked down to the casino, threw some cash on the table, and walked away 30 seconds later with a roll of cash. Well done Darren.

As with many destination wedding venues, there could be a number of resorts in the Bahamas that do not allow destination wedding photographers, so be sure to choose a resort that allows destination wedding photographers for your Bahamas wedding. Contact the studio to be sure your venue is accommodating to destination wedding photographers. Utilizing the hotel photographer as your Bahamas destination wedding photographer is highly discouraged, as often these employees are not trained photographers.

A list of commonly known resorts that cater to destination weddings, but also disallow or actually charge high fees for allowing destination wedding photographers to serve their clients, include the Sandals Resorts (all locations), Breezes (all locations), Rooms On The Beach Resorts (all locations), Couples Resorts (all locations), Starfish Resorts (all locations), Grand Lido Resorts (all locations), Rose Hall (Jamaica) and the Fern Tree Spa at Half Moon (Jamaica) (The Fern Tree is the same Company as Rose Hall).
